Franklin Templeton Launches Franklin Focused Growth Fund for US Investors

Franklin Templeton today announced the introduction of Franklin Focused Growth Fund, which seeks capital appreciation by investing in a concentrated portfolio of approximately 20 to 50 growth stocks that the investment manager believes show favorable growth, quality and valuation characteristics versus the broader market. The fund is managed by San Mateo, California-based portfolio manager, Matthew Moberg. This launch brings to market a fund with an established track record; the Advisor share class initially funded in April 2016.

Franklin Focused Growth Fund seeks to invest predominantly in equity securities of companies that the investment manager believes offer compelling growth opportunities. Moberg employs a research driven, bottom-up fundamental approach to seek to identify investment opportunities in financially strong companies with favorable growth potential and sustainable competitive advantages.

“Fundamental research, focused on a long-term view of duration and pace of growth, drive our idea generation. We consider many factors when selecting investments, including a company’s strategic positioning in its industry, its historical and potential growth in free cash flow, and an assessment of the strength and quality of management,” said Moberg, senior vice president and portfolio manager with Franklin Equity Group.

Within this conviction-weighted portfolio, large allocations to growth-oriented sectors such as technology, health care and consumer discretionary are likely. The equity securities in which the fund invests will be predominantly common stock. While the fund primarily invests in large cap companies, it may also invest in small- and mid-capitalization companies. In addition to the fund’s main investments, it may invest a portion (up to 25 percent) of its net assets in foreign equity securities, including those located in emerging markets.

Moberg has 22 years of industry experience and 16 years managing growth funds, including Franklin DynaTech Fund. Moberg draws upon the in-depth resources of Franklin Equity Group, which includes more than 50 investment professionals, supporting the research and portfolio management of US, global and sector equity portfolios.
