NODE.Health Announces Release of User Experience Measurement Framework for Digital Health

NODE.Health (The Network of Digital Evidence in Health) has developed a framework and scoring instrument to measure user experience for digital health with the goal of improving patient and clinician experiences as well as outcomes.

NEW YORK, NY, January 09, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- NODE.Health (Network of Digital Evidence in Health), the leading professional association focused on bringing evidence-based medicine practices to digital health, announces today that is has released a version of its user experience (UX) measurement framework that is ready for use.

The patient digital experience has become a focus in recent years as digital media are becoming the primary means of patients interacting with care providers and related stakeholders. Additionally, clinician burnout is a significant issue that is caused in large part by poor usability of EHR's and related systems.

By measuring and scoring UX for clinician and patient experiences, problem areas can be identified and resources directed to fixing the specific issues. Organizations can use the system to develop baselines for products or experiences (either individually or in a portfolio) and track improvement over time.

The system, developed over the course of the last year with input from medical professionals, health system innovators, startups and UX professionals, not only provides foundational principles but a practical scoresheet that can be downloaded and used to score an experience. The scoresheet generates a dashboard across the eight principles that define the framework and allows for weighting of individual measures based on organizational priorities.

"We are excited to offer this tool to the community to help improve patient and clinician experiences," said Jay Erickson, NODE.Health Board Member and Chief Innovation Officer at Modus, a digital product agency. "We set out to create something that could be immediately useful to product and innovation teams to inform their decisions and weave UX into the innovation roadmap in a practical and sustainable way. The project supports our overall NODE mission of bringing more rigor to the practice of digital medicine, supporting innovation and separating out UX factors from the core efficacy of digital interventions."

Some startups have already begun using the framework including Project Ronin, Citus Health, and Unblock Health to help guide their product development. Next steps for the project include performing a study against leading EHR's, exploring patient-friendly and clinician-friendly certifications, developing a "lite" version, and gathering feedback to continually improve the framework.
