The American Association of Medical Assistants® (AAMA) met in Greensboro, North Carolina for its 63rd Annual Conference. Franky Favata, BS, CMA (AAMA), was installed as a 2019–2021 AAMA Trustee. In this capacity, Trustee Favata, a resident of Derry, New Hampshire, represents medical assistants and CMAs (AAMA)® across the nation.
Medical assisting is one of the nation’s careers growing much faster than the average for all occupations, according to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Medical assistants work in outpatient health care settings. Employers are seeking and recruiting these allied health professionals because of their uniquely diverse clinical and administrative patient-centered training.

Favata brings a great deal of experience to her office. She has been a CMA (AAMA) since 2010, working in various specialty practices, including family, urology, and palliative care, across New Hampshire. She transitioned to working part-time at Palliativity Medical Group LLC in Bedford, New Hampshire, while joining Lamprey Health Care, her current employer, in its practices in Raymond and Newmarket. Lamprey Health Care is a nonprofit federally qualified health center specializing in family practice. Her role at Lamprey Health Care has evolved into a population health role, in which she works on the Quality Improvement Committee.
Favata has served in many capacities for the AAMA, including chairing the Bylaws and Resolutions Committee and serving as a member of several strategy teams and committees: Task Force for Test Construction, Leadership Development, Membership Development, Social Media, and Editorial Advisory.
The Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA)—or CMA (AAMA)—credential represents a medical assistant who has been credentialed through the Certifying Board (CB) of the AAMA. The CB of the AAMA was awarded accreditation by the International Accreditation Service (IAS) under ISO/IEC Standard 17024:2012, the global benchmark for personnel certification bodies, thus distinguishing the CMA (AAMA) from all other medical assisting certifications.
A rigorous credential, the CMA (AAMA) is the only medical assisting certification that requires postsecondary (college-level) education to be eligible to sit for the CMA (AAMA) Certification Exam. The National Board of Medical Examiners—responsible for many national exams for physicians—constructs and administers the exam. As a result, the reliability and validity of the CMA (AAMA) credential are of the highest order.
Certification status is a matter of public record and may be released. Every day the AAMA responds to more than 100 employer requests for CMA (AAMA) certification verification—for both current and potential employees.
