The Grey Nuns Community Hospital provides a full range of health services to a diverse and growing urban community in southeast Edmonton, following a deep-rooted tradition of healing the body, enriching the mind, and nurturing the soul. It is also the Northern Alberta Vascular Center. Pat sees approximately 80,000 patients per year. She works in all areas of the Emergency Department, including resuscitation. 

Pat began her career serving in a General Surgical Unit for 18 months before moving to the Emergency Department where she worked for 7 years on a full-time basis. She then moved to the United Kingdom where she worked in a busy Accident and Emergency Department for 3 years. Upon returning to Canada in 1994, Pat started working in the Emergency Department at Grey Nuns Community Hospital. During this time, she also worked as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner from 1999-2001. Pat also worked part-time in the Post Anesthesia Recovery Room (PARR) from 2007-2015.

Pat earned her nursing diploma from Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing in 1981 achieving an RN exam mark in the top ten in Alberta. Pat is an active member of the National Emergency Nurses Association,(NENA)  where she served as President for NENA-AB and a member of the Board of Directors. She has held the position of Director of Membership and Promotions and is currently the BOD Representative for Alberta... She was Co-Chair of the NENA Annual Conference in Edmonton, Alberta in 2014. 

Pat is currently a Facilitator for the Emergency Practice, Intervention Course-Canada- (EPICC) Foundations.  This is a course for Emergency Nurses developed by and for Canadian Emergency Nurses.

Pat is a member of the Canadian Nurses Association and the Emergency Nurses Association. She attained her Emergency Nursing Certification of Canada through the CNA in 1998 and has maintained her certification for the past 20 years. In 2016, Pat selected and asked to assist with questions for the National Council Licensure Examination. Throughout her career, Pat has worked in only teaching facilities and has mentored many student nurses and student paramedics. She serves as a mentor to new staff and truly tries to lead by example.

Pat knew that she wanted to become a nurse ever since she was a small child. Her mother was a nurse, as were two of her aunts.  She loves helping people and making a positive influence in their lives. She strives to make a difference and it shows to her patients with the care that she gives and the constant smile on her face. 

Pat attributes her success to her love for people and her passion for her career. She truly loves coming to work and making a difference. When asked what motivates her at the start of each day, Pat answered, "my family - blood and chosen."

Pat has a special interest in abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA). She has written two articles on AAA that have been published in the Canadian Journal of Emergency Nursing. She has done a presentation on AAA in the Emergency Department at the NENA Pan-American Conference held in Toronto in April of 2015 as well as for her co-workers at the Grey Nun's. Pat's favourite professional publications include the Journal of Emergency Nursing and the Canadian Journal of Emergency Nursing.

A registered nurse (RN) is a nurse who has graduated from a nursing program and met the requirements outlined by a country, state, province or similar licensing body to obtain a nursing license. RNs fulfil a variety of job duties. In addition to their primary role of treating and caring for patients, their responsibilities also include educating patients and the public about a variety of medical conditions, as well as providing emotional support and advice to the families of their patients. Other RN job functions include performing diagnostic tests and analyzing results, operating medical equipment, administering medications, recording patients' symptoms and medical histories, as well as assisting with patient rehabilitation and follow-up. 

Pat was born in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, Canada. Her all-time favourite movie is The Sound of Music and her favourite music is pop songs of the 80s. Her favourite place to vacation is in Africa. In her spare time, she enjoys travelling internationally.
