Bowen Therapy PSTD Stress Sleep Endorphin Fascia Connection Report Released

Bowen therapists looking to upskill can now benefit from the release of the Bowen College ground-breaking report on the connection between the fascia, endorphin release and the successful treatment of PTSD, stress and sleep.

Bowen College, an international holistic health educator, based in Vancouver, Canada, has released a groundbreaking report on the connection between endorphin receptors in the fascia and the treatment of PSTD, stress and sleep-related disorders. The college report uncovers the need to use ideal pressure during treatment to stimulate the vast network of nerves that run through the fascia, not just awaken the autonomic nervous system as first thought.

Just released, the Bowen College report acknowledges that to foster interoceptive accuracy or changes within the body as a therapist, it is essential to move the client from a sympathetic state, which is referred to the ‘fight or flight’ response, into a parasympathetic or vagal state, where the client is in ‘a rest and digest’ state.

The report discloses that if a client is in a continual state of stress, such as PTSD, this dramatically reduces the interoceptive ability of the client, as they are in a constate sympathetic state. This state then adversely affects the client so that they find it difficult to sleep and carry out daily activities.

The key to effective treatment of PTSD, stress, and sleep disorders says the report ties directly to the use of ideal pressure during Bowen treatment, which awakens endorphin receptors in the fascia. First discovered by Kendice Pert, a researcher and practitioner, the endorphin receptors in the fascia can be stimulated so that they transmit energy through an open web of elastin, collagen and polysaccharide substance to the billions of cells, muscles and sensory nerves that exist within the body.

What is groundbreaking about the report is Bowen therapists used to think that only the autonomic nervous system, which regulates bodily functions, existed within the body. But now the discovery of a far greater network of nerves that runs through the fascia enables therapists to facilitate more effective treatment.

Noting the fascia is a crystalline structure which enables piezoelectric phenomena, or an electric charge, to pass through it, the report goes on to explain that tissue in the body comes alive when stimulated with pressure as this produces photons and electrons. What is interesting though, states the report, is that if the pressure is too hard on the skin, it blocks the lymphatic flow because the lymphatic system is close to the surface of the skin. If on the other hand it is too light, then a therapist won’t engage the fascia matrix.

A spokesperson for the Bowen College said, “The report is significant as it not only describes the discovery of the additional nerve network in the body, but it also highlights that to awaken the connection between these nerves in the fascia and bodily function requires exact pressure. This ideal pressure must be gauged using a slight push-back technique to find the type of resistance required to set a connection point. This connection point may differ from client to client — a move that is crucial to Bowen. So, from a therapeutic perspective, Bowen Therapy is ideal for opening the connection within this matrix providing the therapist is skilled. Thus, it is imperative that a therapist gain the right skills to effectuate this ground-breaking treatment.”
