Fairmont WV Physical Therapist Awarded Sports Clinical Specialist Certification

Tim Turner, DPT, ATC of Fairmont, WV, was awarded the professional designation of Board Certified Sports Clinical Specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).

This Sports Clinical Specialist credential demonstrates advanced skills, requires completion of established eligibility criteria, and passing an exam in the area of Sports Physical Therapy.

Turner and his team of physical therapists and athletic trainers specialize in the evaluation and treatment of orthopedic, sports, and hand injuries, as well as the treatment of back and neck injuries, post-operative rehabilitation. They also offer concussion and vestibular rehabilitation.

To obtain board certification for the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties, candidates must submit evidence of required clinical practice in one of nine specialty areas: Cardiovascular and Pulmonary, Clinical Electrophysiology, Geriatrics, Neurology, Oncology, Orthopaedics, Pediatrics, Sports, and Women’s Health Physical Therapy.

In addition, candidates must successfully complete a rigorous examination, demonstrating specialized knowledge and advanced clinical proficiency in a specialty area of physical therapist practice.
