European-inspired and award-winning Utepils Brewing Co. is scheduled to host a ceremonial ribbon cutting to debut its expansive creekside beer garden on Saturday, June 29, at 12:30 p.m.
Open to the general public, the first 50 guests who arrive at the ceremony will receive a complimentary beer to toast with co-owners, brewery staff and friends to the Harrison neighborhood’s newest addition.
“In keeping with our tradition of offering delicious, European-style beers and entertainment, our beer garden represents an extension of the classic Munich tradition of 'biergartens' from the early 1800s,” said Dan Justesen, founder of Utepils. “These types of outdoor spaces helped bring neighbors together during the warmer seasons so they could cool off under the shade of surrounding chestnut trees with a freshly poured beer in hand. While there are no chestnut trees, a large gas fireplace will keep us warm during all of Minnesota’s colder months.”
Located at 225 Thomas Ave. N. in Minneapolis, Utepils' new beer garden will pay tribute to authentic Munich-style beer gardens with the inclusion of long wooden benches and tables for communal seating with surrounding lush trees and green landscape. Justesen continued, “With three beautiful parks and Bassett creek as our backyard, our guests can experience a truly authentic European-style beer garden where they’ll get to sit with both friends and neighbors to share stories, create memories and savor fresh pilsners and other Utepils favorites while basking in the fresh air. We are striving to create the best outdoor beer space in the metro.”
