More Than 500 Volunteers Expected to Clean Siesta Key Beach for World Oceans Day With Beach.com

SIESTA KEY, Fla. - June 4, 2019 - (Newswire.com)

Protect our ocean, protect our future. More than 500 people are registered for Beach.com’s World Oceans Day Beach Cleanup on Siesta Key Beach this Saturday, June 8, 2019. The free and family-friendly event runs from 8-11 a.m. at the Siesta Key Beach Pavilion and is part of an international effort to raise awareness of ocean conservation.

Bring friends and family for a fun-filled morning of education and good deeds. Registration for the event kicks off at 8 a.m., with free t-shirts for the first 100 attendees. During the kickoff, attendees will hear from a local marine biologist on the state of our oceans. Other fun activities include sunrise beach yoga at 7 a.m., live music by a young, Sarasota-based band that makes their instruments entirely out of trash, local restaurants serving up light bites and coffee, cornhole and ocean-themed face painting.

World Oceans Day is a global celebration that takes place on June 8, with hundreds of events around the world celebrating our oceans. Beach.com, a Sarasota-based startup, partnered with Sarasota County to host the official World Oceans Day Beach Cleanup on Siesta Key Beach. The two young ladies and Sarasota natives behind Beach.com, Tara Caguiat and Yasmin Parsloe, are passionate about saving the ocean and raising awareness on a community level. “We want this to be a positive event for members of our community, and to make an impact on our local beach,” says Parsloe. “We have a beautiful natural resource here. Let’s preserve it for generations to come.”

Beach.com promotes travel to the world’s best beach destinations, but they’re holding travelers accountable. “Sadly, the tourism industry plays a negative role on our oceans and environment. That’s why we launched our beach cleanup initiative,” says Parsloe. The company pledges to host beach cleanups in every destination featured on their website in an effort to save the ocean and teach local communities about conservation and pollution - the first being their home beach, Siesta Key Beach.
