New York City, May 17, 2019 (Issuewire.com) - Dr Alessandro De Alarcon is an ear, nose and throat (ENT) doctor, also known as an otolaryngologist, practising in Cincinnati, OH.

Dr De Alarcon specializes in diseases and disorders of the ear, nose and throat as well as other parts of the head and neck. Such structures an ENT may work on including the sinuses, larynx (voice box) and mouth in addition to the ear, nose and throat.

There are seven areas of expertise that an ENT might specialize in, and these are allergies; facial reconstructive surgery; head and neck; laryngology; otology/neurotology; pediatric otolaryngology; and rhinology.

Alessandro de Alarcon is the Director of the Center for Pediatric Voice Disorders, Medical Director of the Complex Airway Unit and an integral member of the Aerodigestive and Esophageal Center at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Cincinnati and at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.  His expertise is in pediatric voice disorders and airway reconstruction.  He treats all aspects of pediatric otolaryngology and has subspecialty expertise in patients with airway/voice, sinus, and swallowing issues.

His research interests include post airway reconstruction dysphonia, high-speed video endoscopy, recurrent respiratory papillomatosis, and outcomes research.  He is a prolific academic surgeon who has published over 56 articles and chapters in national/international journal and books.

He is a bilingual international lecturer and has presented throughout the world on the topics of airway reconstruction and voice disorders in children.

At the beginning of the pediatric voice program at the University of Cincinnati (UC) Medical Center, "we were satisfied with successful airway reconstruction in our patients that allowed them to have some voice," says Alessandro de Alarcon, MD, MPH, UC Health.

Over the last 10 years, UC Medical Center has become concerned with assessing the quality of pediatric patients' voices as they grow, including soft/weak voices and other voice problems that can be improved and treated. "Patients who have had complex surgery for breathing now want to address these issues, and we want to make their voices better without worsening their breathing. Maintaining this balance has become our expertise," explains Dr De Alarcon, associate professor, otolaryngology-head and neck surgery, and director, Center for Pediatric Voice Disorders, UC Medical Center/and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.
