Portland SEO's Augusto Beato called upon hotel operators to safeguard the privacy of their guests amid technological advancements that may be used to spy on them.
Beato, a digital services expert who may be reached via the Portland SEO site through this link, was reacting to news that around 1,600 people have been secretly filmed in hotel rooms in South Korea, with the footage live-streamed online for paying customers to watch.
While there was no indication that the 30 hotels in 10 cities around South Korea were complicit in the scheme, it is their responsibility that the guest would not be victimized within their premises. 
"Guests depend on the hotel not only to provide warmth and comfort but also to make sure that their movements are not made known to strangers and that their credit card details will remain secret," said Beato, the CEO of Portland SEO, which also provides advice about online security.
According to the National Police Agency, the perpetrators hid cameras inside digital TV boxes, hairdryer holders and wall sockets in a total of 42 rooms with the footage streamed on a site that had over 4,000 members.
Police have arrested two men and are investigating another pair in connection with the hotel scandal.
South Korea has been rocked by spy camera scandals in hotels.
In 2017, the country had 6,400 cases of illegal filming reported to the police, prompting tens of thousands of women to protest in the streets of Seoul against the practice and demand action.
