NuggMD, Nation's Leading Online Telemedicine Platform for Medical Marijuana, Now Serves Nevada

LOS ANGELES - December 19, 2018 - (Newswire.com)

NuggMD, the nation’s leading telemedicine platform that connects prospective medical cannabis patients with licensed doctors online, announced today that it will expand services to Nevada. State residents with a serious medical condition that warrants medical marijuana can now undergo an online consultation from the comfort and privacy of their home. Qualifying conditions range from persistent muscle spasms and glaucoma to severe pain, PTSD and more.

Since 2017, NuggMD has helped more than 500,000 medical marijuana patients in California and New York obtain their online medical cannabis recommendation, furthering its mission to improve quality of life through cannabis.

"Patients with severe medical problems have faced gaps in medical care for decades because they have mobility issues or can't carve out the time it takes to wait in a doctor's office for care," says Nugg COO and co-founder Kam Babazade. "This is where NuggMD comes in. Through advances in telemedicine, NuggMD is enabling more people across the nation to access cannabis for relief from suffering and pain due to chronic conditions."

Nevada is helping to relieve these gaps in care as well. New program improvements allow patients to apply for the Medical Marijuana Cardholder Registry entirely online, with no more long waits at the DMV. So, seriously ill patients in small cities and rural areas no longer need to travel to cities like Reno or Las Vegas to apply for their medical marijuana card. They can complete the entire process at home - from doctor's visit to program registration.

Full recreational cannabis legalization is also making access a little easier for patients 21 and older who face access hurdles. But Babazade warns that prospective cannabis patients may be giving up important advantages if they take this shortcut.

"Nevada's Medical Marijuana Program offers registered patients an exemption from the state's 10 percent retail excise tax. Patients almost invariably need more cannabis than the average recreational user and this discount can add up to hundreds of dollars a year or more for some,” Babazade says.

And there are a number of other benefits to becoming a cannabis patient that residents may be unaware of. Nevada’s Medical Marijuana Cardholders/Caregivers Program helps to ease patient access in the following ways:

  • Registered patients or caregivers are allowed larger possession limits to accommodate their medical needs: 2.5 ounces of flower or 10,000mg of THC total in combined concentrates and/or edibles.

  • Registered patients or caregivers don't have to travel to dispensaries as often with larger purchase limits. (Nevada only allows one ounce of flower and 3,500mg worth of concentrates to recreational users).

  • Registered patients or caregivers can cultivate their own cannabis within 25 miles of a dispensary if they qualify for a specific exemption, like being too weak to travel or needing a specific, but unavailable strain.

  • The program allows legal cannabis use for registered cannabis patients under the age of 21. It's not legal to use cannabis recreationally under the age of 21, so minors who need medical cannabis must register with the department to avoid legal problems.

Here’s how to get a medical marijuana card in Nevada: visit NuggMD and register for an online evaluation with one of Nugg’s licensed cannabis doctors. Certified medical marijuana cards are $79 for one year or $99 for two years.
