In a move to further empower and appreciate primary care clinicians, RubiconMD has launched the first in the nation Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit program for submission of electronic consultations (eConsults). This program provides primary care clinicians with the ability to obtain up to 20 hours of CME per year for utilizing eConsults as a way to obtain efficient, high quality specialty care for their patients.
The new program, spearheaded by RubiconMD’s Chief Clinical Transformation Officer and practicing primary care physician, Dr. J. Nwando Olayiwola, MD, MPH, FAAFP, is the culmination of a journey to make sure eConsults are recognized for their high educational value and case-based utility in patient care. “The evidence continues to support the eConsult not just as an access and efficiency tool, but as a powerful educational tool for clinicians. We are thrilled that we can offer this benefit to our users as another clinical benefit,” said Dr. Olayiwola.

RubiconMD is the first eConsult provider to offer this type of CME credit granting program for eConsults. The importance of CME credit for clinicians cannot be understated. The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) describes CME as follows: Continuing medical education consists of educational activities which serve to maintain, develop, or increase the knowledge, skills, and professional performance and relationships that a physician uses to provide services for patients, the public, or the profession. Physicians and other healthcare professionals are required to complete a certain number of CME hours per year, sometimes up to 50 hours, to maintain their board certification and state licensure.
