Congressional Candidate Kahn Adds Foster Care to Family Separations

By: PRLog
Green Party Congressional Candidate Dr. Lynn S Kahn releases video clip and article about hundreds of thousands of forced family separations when children – including newborns – are taken by state agencies and put in foster care. They join children hurt by divorce or custody decisions amid the pain of parental alienation.
SCHROON LAKE, N.Y. - July 2, 2018 - PRLog -- In her September 2017 article about foster care, Dr. Kahn described the abuses and violations of our Constitutional rights in family court decisions. Kahn's January 2018 article outlined five solution sets for foster care and family court. As a Congressional candidate, Kahn's June 2018 article calls for expanded conversations about family separations and legislative changes. Today, Kahn calls for six actions:
  • Congressional hearings about family separations in foster care and child custody
  • Legislation to halt Termination of Parental Rights (TPR) proceedings until an independent family/team/child team reviews the decision; with language that stops taxpayer funding of adoption proceedings while any parent or grandparent has an ongoing effort to regain custody; and with funding to provide independent review upon request of TPR cases since 1990 Legislation that funds local family advocates and coaches for families in crisis
  • Legislation to stop using taxpayer funds to take children from kinship networks and use those budgets for programs and services that keep families together
  • Congressional hearings on standards for taking children from families
  • Congressional hearings about shared parenting and outdated custody decisions
Yes, some parents must lose custody where evidence of harm exists – maybe 15% of all cases of taken children. Activists believe 85% of taken children should not have been removed from the family home and kinship network. Criminals in Criminal Court have more rights than families in Family Court.
