Consumers Energy Awards Future Energy Group and McLaren Health Care Project of the Year

LANSING, Mich. & STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. - June 5, 2018 - (Newswire.com)

Recently, Consumers Energy announced their Project of the Year award recipients. Future Energy Group and McLaren Health Care were recognized for this honor for Phase 1 of McLaren’s system-wide intelligent LED lighting initiative, which saved McLaren an estimated 12 million kWh and estimated $1.6 million in energy cost savings annually. McLaren also received $230,106 worth of rebates from Consumers Energy.

Consumers Energy, Michigan’s largest energy provider, serves 6.7 million of the state’s 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties with natural gas and/or electricity. Their Project of the Year award recognizes, honors and publicizes a successful project and the achievements of the project team for their efforts in energy efficiency.

We were honored to be recognized by Consumers Energy,” shared Sam DiNello, vice-president of Future Energy Group. “We are thrilled that our long-time partner, McLaren Health Care, can be acknowledged for their stewardship of energy efficiency.”

The massive undertaking by Future Energy Group — 25,000 outdoor and indoor LED fixtures and over 12,000 intelligent lighting fixtures were installed — enabled McLaren to reduce their energy expenditure by nearly 70 percent. Intelligent lighting and LED fixtures were installed in over five million square feet at McLaren subsidiaries: Northern Michigan, Bay Region, Bay Special Care, Central Michigan, Greater Lansing, Orthopedic Hospital, Flint, Lapeer Region, Port Huron, Macomb and Oakland.

Just in the Consumers Energy coverage area for this project alone, over three million kWh are estimated to be saved annually. This translates to reducing 4,346,018 pounds of carbon emissions or the equivalent of growing 50,547 tree seedlings per year. Not only reducing their energy footprint, McLaren Health Care reduced their carbon footprint in the process.

The Consumers Energy Project of the Year is awarded on a yearly basis for projects within their service area. This award honors companies that successfully implement an energy efficiency program. Learn more at ProjectoftheYear.ConsumersEnergy.com
