Knit Health is Redefining Health Tracking, Starting with Children

By: PRLog
Launching Today on Kickstarter, World's First Children's Sleep Monitor To Track Both Sleep and Breathing with Computer Vision
SAN FRANCISCO - Oct. 18, 2016 - PRLog -- Redefining the categories of baby monitors and sleep trackers, the first production run of the most technologically advanced sleep monitor system will be pre-sold on Kickstarter starting today. Until now, the world of baby monitors has focused on video/audio streams, and sleep tracking has focused on wearables. The Knit Health system consists of an easy-to-mount HD camera and a deep learning system which analyses a child's pose, breathing and sleep throughout the night without wearables. And while the Knit camera is initially being marketed to parents of young children, the camera works on babies and adults alike. Knit is elegant and easy to use, and offered at a lower price point and with more features than any other product on the market.

Built by parents for parents, Knit Health was co-founded by three former IDEO designers who are fathers of young children. Their mission is to help families better understand and take control of their children's sleep routines and health at home. "The Knit Health monitor is going to change the game of sleep medicine," explained David Janssens, CEO and co-founder of Knit Health. "No other product on the market helps parents for all their children's growth stages. We are empowering parents in the care of their kids sleep, respiration and wellness using only our camera."

"See, don't touch."
The Knit system collects its data from a video camera. Nothing is a attached to the child or the crib. The wires and wifi are kept far from the child.

"Understanding, not data." Traditional monitoring systems, cameras and microphones provide a flood of data for the parent to interpret. The Knit monitor sees the child, understands what's happening, and summarizes sleep and breathing data for parents so they have everything they need to understand their child's night. Parents appreciate Knit's data as the single best predictor of how the day will be.

"Seize the day." Daily insights, weekly and monthly trends help parents of all ages keep tabs on overall sleep levels -- illuminating important patterns, like their child's best bedtime and sleeping conditions. The monitor even highlights the impact of colds and coughs, developmental changes and seasonal setbacks.

"Breathe easy reassurance." Knit makes it easy to tune into your child's status and receive alerts when they need attention due to crying or room conditions. With one glance at the Knit app, the BreasyTM button allows parents to double-check on their child's chest movement.

"For your eyes only." Built with the most modern encryption and security standards, the Knit video stream runs only on a secure, local network.

Implementing a human centered design approach, Knit Health has been prototyping with parents for the past 18 months and testing the product in homes with 40 parents for the past 6 months. While the Knit camera is initially being marketed to parents of young children, the camera works on babies and adults alike. The product can be used for better understanding of sleep science, health tracking of colds and coughs, asthma and allergies, and sleep related illnesses. The three co-founders spent a decade at IDEO and learned to build product there. They continued building Knit with IDEO as an investor, advisor and extensive collaborator on the design of the camera. Early investors in Knit Health include IDEO, Bolt, Joi Ito (Director of MIT Media Lab), Ben Keighran (entrepreneur; former design lead, Apple), Dan Bomze (founder of MileIQ), iRobot Ventures and more.

The Kickstarter campaign launches October 18, 2016 with on time product shipping in March 2017. While product pricing will normally be $249 + a subscription of $9/month (or $99/year), the Kickstarter campaign offers discounts of 30-50% off  for early backers at a variety of levels. In addition, gift  packages are offered to share during the holidays and recipients will receive their Knit camera a few months later.
