PR Log - Apr 29, 2013 - Jeff VanHoose was once known as the “Manhole Magician,” but the owner of VANHOOSECO knows that hard work and great customer service — not a magic spell — make a successful business.

VanHoose, with decades of experience in concrete construction, says it was only a matter of time before he started manufacturing ready mix and precast products delivering the highest quality product on schedule with safety first to the East Tennessee region and beyond.

With over $9 million in sales last year, VanHoose is making magic and finding success by taking chances.

“Business owners need to take a calculated risk to expand their business activities into new competitive arenas. If you don’t take risks, you don’t get any reward. People tell me I’m lucky, but the truth is the harder you work, the luckier you get.” VanHoose said.

In fact, during an economic downturn, VanHoose started three of his four companies: VanHooseCo Precast, VanHooseCo Mechanical & Millwright, and VanHooseCo Ready Mix.

“I continued to start companies in a down economy and I’ve been successful in that aspect. We’ve experienced a lot of success even in a recession,” VanHoose said.

VANHOOSECO’s years of quality service began in 1996, when Jeff VanHoose founded Pour In Place Inc., and began pouring custom sewer manholes and storm drainage structures. VanHoose quickly became the “manhole magician,” known throughout the region — particularly through his work with utility companies — for taking the most complex projects and completing them safely and quickly.

VANHOOSECO companies’ sales include precast concrete products such as precast tilt-wall panels, utility structures, columns and beams and even prefabricated concrete homes, in addition to mechanical and millwright services and pour in place concrete construction. VANHOOSECO has the only central mix plant in the area, and VanHoose developed specialized concrete molds for his pre-cast division that offer his customers unique, top-quality options.

The company and its 70 employees contribute to the community thousands a year through property, sales, and payroll taxes. VanHoose is proud to call the company a family business.

“My employees are part of my success. We have a good group of diverse professionals that work together as a team,” VanHoose said.

“Dad attracts the dream team,” said Genesis VanHoose Schrimsher, Jeff’s daughter and vice president of operations for VANHOOSECO Precast.

Talented employees are only one magic ingredient in VanHoose’s recipe for success — he also places great emphasis on honest bidding, strong relationships in the community and customer service.

“In the precast industry, people love our service. It is second to none. They love working with us. Our customers aren’t just another customer; they are like family,” VanHoose said. “And great products and customer service are what makes a successful business.”
