Vale suspends shipments from Itaguaí
Rio de Janeiro, December 14, 2007 Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (Vale) hereby informs that, due
to an accident with a ship in its Itaguaí maritime terminal (Itaguaí), in the Brazilian state of
Rio de Janeiro, it suspended iron shipments in this terminal.
The stoppage of Itaguaí represents an average daily loss of the Company shipment of 60,000 metric
tons of iron ore.
Itaguaí, with annual shipload capacity of 25 million metric tons of iron ore, is Vales smallest
maritime terminal for iron ore shipments. Vale also operates the Ponta da Madeira maritime
terminal, in the Brazilian state of Maranhão, Guaíba Island maritime terminal, in the state of Rio
de Janeiro, and Tubarão Port, in the state of Espírito Santo.
Itaguaí will start operating with certain limitations tomorrow, depending on the results of the
undergoing tests. It will be able to operate at full capacity within approximately 40 (forty) days
after the conclusion of the recovery works.
